A Precision Air ATR crashed into Lake Victoria in Tanzania while on the final approach to Bukoba Airport.
The ATR 42-500 was carrying 49 passengers and 4 crew members and the police said that they didn’t know of any casualties so far. The aircraft involved in the incident was either 5H-PWE or 5H-PWF and was performing flight PW494 from the capital, Dar es Salaam to Bukoba, Tanzania.
The aircraft plunged into Lake Victoria this morning due to a storm and heavy rains, as reported by the state-owned Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation. Rescue operations have already begun. Footage shared on the internet shows the plane mostly submerged in the lake.
