Two Turkish Airlines chief pilots have died from the widespread novel corona virus last week.

The head of Turkey Civil Aviation Labor Union confirmed this and also said that two more pilots are also fighting for their lives in hospital.
Ali Kemal Tatlibal offered condolences to Mustafa Özden Türkon and Mehmet Ali Kiliç in a tweet. He said that the pilots died at hospitals during treatment for the virus.
Captain Mehmet Ali Kiliç was aged 57 whereas Captain Mustafa Özden Türkon was 69 years old, according to media and reports.
Captain Türkon passed away on Sunday while Captain Kiliç died the following day in the hospital. However, it was not explained how the two captains had contracted the corona virus.

Both pilots were on the Turkish Airbus wide-bodies, of course the Airbus A330s. Captain Türkon had already retired from commercial flying and was currently working as a simulator instructor for the airline.
According to Haberturk, the Turkish newspaper, two more Turkish Airlines pilots, Serdar Gundogdu and Feyzi Altunbudak, are also being treated for COVID-19 in hospitals nearby.
However, the condition of these two pilots is not reported.
Recently, a senior Kenya Airways Boeing 787 Captain has passed away, a week after commanding a repatriation flight to New York, USA.

Turkish Airlines has taken number of steps to reduce the spread of the corona virus in Turkey. The flag carrier has extended the suspension of international flights until May 20.

After the corona virus originated in Wuhan, China last December, the virus has now spread to over 210 countries and territories around the world.
As of now, the United States and Europe have been the hardest hit by the corona virus outbreak with over 849,000 cases in the United States and around 1.2 million cases reported in Europe.
In Turkey, a total of 98,674 cases of the virus have been reported. The death toll has reached 2,376 and over 16,477 patients have recovered from the virus as of now.
Globally, the corona virus has infected more than 2.6 million people and has claimed over 185,000 deaths, according to reports based on WHO.
Along with this, over 729,870 patients have recovered from the virus bringing total closed cases to 915,039 as of now.
