Air France-KLM Confirms Firm Order For 60 Airbus A220 Aircraft

Air France-KLM ordered 60 A320s all to be operated by Air France

Air France-KLM Group has confirmed its order for 60 Airbus A220-300s. All of these aircraft will be operated by Air France. These aircraft will renew the aging medium-haul-fleet. Still 60 of the type are remaining as options.

We are very happy about Air France’s backing for the A220, which makes an important contribution to fleet optimization for operators with extensive route networks. This largest A220 order from a European airline speaks volumes about Air France’s ambitious sustainability plans. The modern and economical A220 will consume significantly less fuel and emit significantly less CO2 compared to previous generation aircraft, ”said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer commented in a press release.

 “We thank Air France for the trust they have placed in us and for investing in our aircraft equipped with the latest technology.”

A memorandum of understanding(MOU) was signed in late July 2019, for 60 Airbus A220-300s, with an option of 60 more for a total estimated at $7.2 billion.

An Endorsement for the smallest Airbus Product…

Air France-KLM currently operates a fleet of 159 Airbus aircraft. As for Airbus A220 series, it had an order book of 530 aircraft at the end of November 2019.

Air France will replace old widebodies with A350s

Earlier this month Air France-KLM announced it placed a firm order for 10 additional Airbus A350-900s, which take its total order for the type to 38 aircrafts. Those additional A350s all are to be operated by Air France.

 Air France-KLM is a Francho-Dutch airline holding company or parent company of Air France, Flag carrier of France and KLM, Flag carrier of Netherlands. It is headquartered in Charles de Gaulle Airport in France.

As of December, 2019 Air France operates a fleet of 225 aircraft including 18 A318s, 33 A319s, 44 A320s, 20 A321s, 15 A330s, 4 aging A340s, 3 A350s and 10 A380s from Airbus famiy along with 25 Boeing 777-200ER, 43 Boeing 777-300ERs and 9 787-9s from Boeing. Air France cargo operates 2 Boeing 777F. Air France has 96 more aircrafts on order mainly comprising A350s and A220s.
